Fragmentation and Guilt
I'm no longer writing to feed the machine that is Substack. It's not a direct to readers model. I don't know what it is, but it isn't that.
I'm across too many platforms and I can't keep up. So, I'm bringing both my Substacks in-house again.
Things were good when I was a regular Substack writer.
Then I took some time off. I had to travel overseas.
It was never the same afterward.
I tried again, but my heart wasn't in it this time.
I was pouring all my writing energy into YouTube.
I felt guilty for slacking on my Substack.
It got me wondering, who was I writing this for?
And I came to a realisation that it wasn't actually for me, or for you, dear reader.
It was for Substack.
The machine that is Substack.
So that stops now. I'm bringing my writing back in-house again. You'll find it (and me) at on my website
I won't mail you too often. If there's a lot going on, maybe weekly. If it's kind of slack, maybe monthly. But I'll be posting on my website a few times a week. Mostly short posts and links. Long posts are too daunting. When you feel like you have to say a lot, you can find you can end up saying nothing at all. That's my experience anyway.
I'm not committing to a regular schedule, because I'm not feeding any more machines that I'm not already committed to.
YouTube is enough for me on that score.
It'll look pretty rough and ready to start with. Think of it as a mid-90s internet aesthetic again.
I'll get around to migrating my Substack posts to my channel at some point. It isn't a priority for me at this busy time of year.
So, new year, new me. Maybe new you too? Drop me a note to let me know how things are going with you. It's always nice hearing from you. You can comment once you're logged in. I'm hoping to build a community, and I'd really appreciate your help.
Oh, and it's free. But you can donate if you can. Times are tough, I know, but if you can afford it - great - if not, all good!
Be great to hear from you. Catch you again soon.
